| :In case you didn't figure it out through experimenting, the smaller the f-stop/aperture number, the shallower the depth of field will be. Or create more distance from the out of focus area for more blur. :Also, it's very hard to take good photos of dark subjects against a bright background, because there tends to be more of the background, so the camera sets the exposure for the brightness and your subject is stuck being too dark. Or just underexpose the photo by one full stop. It'll vary depending on conditions and the camera, though. With my 1D MKII, I'll generally underexpose 2/3rd stops. On my 20D, I'll underexposee 1 full stop when shooting a black car.
